, oregon, california, nevada, idaho, and then moving into wyoming, parts of colorado, utah, and montana. still a few showers throughout the extreme southeast coast here along the atlantic side. the warmest air will be in the south. and it's even going to be mild in the northern plains. 56 in minneapolis is quite mild for this time of year. one storm after another moving into the pacific northwest. watch those snow levels come down saturday night into sunday. be careful when you're traveling through the mountain passes in the coming weeks in the west because those snow levels will fluctuate. there will be times it will be dangerous to travel through those mountain passes. so check the latest conditions before you head through the mountains. here's a look at the temperatures for sunday. still very mild, well above average in some cases 20 degrees above average throughout parts of the upper midwest. cold front eventually going to swing through on monday bringing a chance for some showers. still looking at the pacific northwest for most of the action. same story again on tuesday. front now

, colorado, iowa, it's very close. the toughest state here to make this se ncenario work would be nevada. it's a state a that a lot of republicans and democrats slightly leans in the democratic category. but it's not an implausible scenario. if nobody got 270 then the house of representatives would decide who the president was, but the u.s. senate would vote on who the vice president was. that means the most likely outcome under this scenario is a romney/biden scenario. >> another scenario if ohio is too close to call. >> here's the problem with ohio. they have a new law that says provisional ballots, and these are ballots that are questioned there, maybe somebody didn't bring an i.d., maybe a signature is off, they will let you vote, but you get put in a separate stack. they wouldn't even start counting them until november 17th. today is still november 6th. so in 11 days, let's say the margin is less than 50,000, there's likely to be over 200,000 provisional ballots cast in ohio. they wouldn't start counting those until 11 days. . they wouldn't start counting until then. it would make 2

state of nevada in mitt romney's column, and that's how you get it. it's not very implausible, and, yes, we know that right now the president seems like a favorite in nevada, and that's what makes this less likely than what most folks think, but between that and don't forget you've got congressional districts in nebraska and maine. the point is if you remember how we started this campaign which was the state of iowa decided by eight votes between rick santorum and mitt romney and then oh, by the way the results flipped two weeks later, i've always worried that that was foreshadowing this nightmare scenario. >> as you talk to us, chuck, i want to note that vice president biden is waiting in line to vote in delaware this morning. we'll keep an eye on that as you and i continue to talk. >> reporter: speaking of vice president biden. under this scenario and people are wondering if you don't get to 270, this would go to the house, so the house would elect the president. the senate would elect the vice president, so under this scenario your most likely outcome romney/biden. >> then we'll know

cooler temperatures through central california to southern portions of nevada. 48 right now in san francisco while 70 in phoenix. it won't last through the weekend. this culprit, this upper level low spinning over northern california, bringing rain showers to lower elevations and snowshowers, even moderate bursts of snow through the central and northern portions of the sierra. in the northwest we're okay. they're getting nailed in the northern rockies, the plume of moisture ahead of the storm system. winter storm warnings through all the mountains of utah and through montana where there's blizzard warnings in areas of northern portions of the state. notice in san diego, there's even a winter storm warning. as far as the snow totals expected, the northern portions of rockies is the bull's eye. the forecast is unsettled out periods of clouds and showers on and off throughout the day. >>> through the weekend this dips all the way down through even san diego, hopefully should clear out by sunday. >>> than. cia director petraeus on bengha benghazi. peyton's potential profits and pots. >

the campaign trail today. he will visit wisconsin, colorado, and nevada. they will be his first campaign stops since focusing his attention on sandy, and that break might have actually helped him in this hotly contested presidential race. tracy potts is live on capitol hill now with more. good morning. >> reporter: we haven't seen the president out on the campaign trail since last weekend. take a look. back then, speaking and shaking hands, but today, we're going to see that again, as you said, in three different states. we've got some new poll numbers that show the president still in a very tight race with governor romney. nbc says he's up by six in iowa, but only three and two respectively in wisconsin and new hampshire, all of those within the margin of error. reuters, quinnipiac, some other big polls showing the same thing, especially in virginia and in florida. too close to call in those states, i should say. in those states, they're calling it a tie. meantime, governor romney is spending entire day today in virginia. we'll see if he has the same toned down message that he

head through thursday and friday, we have a winter weather advisory in place for the sierra nevada as snow levels tahoe area will fall to 2,500 feet. that is very low for this early in the season. slick conditions blowing snow, wind gusts, 40 to 60 miles per hour. if you're headed to tahoe this weekend, make sure you have your chains or four-wheel drive ready to go. as we are expecting icy conditions. 86 for today and quite the contrary today. 86 in livermore and 80 degrees in fremont and 80 degrees in los gatos and 80en sane front. here's those changes. tuesday 86 and by tomorrow we shave off 10 to 15 degrees and by thursday we fall back into the 50s and friday periods of rain early and that's when snow levels will really drop off. friday will be the coolest day of the week. only 57 degrees in places like livermore and then saturday into sunday, the sun comes back out, but take a couple days for that cold air to mix out of the bay area. we'll be at about 68, close to 70 on monday. but major changes ahead. we'll talk about which cities have the best chance of breaking records today. f
